Job interviews can be a stressful time because of all the anxiety and pressure based on performing your best. The stress you feel can cause the level of stomach acid in your stomach to increase which can in turn cause you to feel sharp pains in your abdomen. Feeling these pains right before a job interview is not desired. Eating right the morning and day of your job interview will help avoid stomach pain while providing you with good brain fuel.

Have you ever heard the old cliche “clothes make the man?” Trite though it may be, when it comes to the professional world, this little saying is also often true. Dressing for an interview can, on an unconscious level, be as important as what you say during the interview itself. Wearing the right clothes allows the interviewer to immediately focus on what you are saying. The wrong clothes, on the other hand, put a potential employer on edge and split their focus. Here are some quick and easy tips to avoid a disastrous first impression:
- Look put together. Even for more casual jobs, make an effort to dress up a little. Men – a suit may not always be required, but a tie certainly should be. Women – a pressed pair of slacks and an appropriately fitting blouse will take you a long way. Before going into the interview, check your hair, your makeup, and your teeth – an unexpected spot could just create a bit of embarrassment for everyone.
- Follow directions. If, during the phone interview, they ask you to wear a specific item of clothing, then make certain to do so. Don’t think that if they ask for black pants, gray is fine because it goes better with the top you want to wear. In interviews, there is not a “close enough”.
- Don’t split their focus. You want the interviewer’s attention to be on what you’re saying, not on what you may be showing. Make certain skirts are no shorter than right above the knee and that blouses aren’t showing an inappropriate amount of cleavage.
- Pay attention to the details. The little things you think no one will notice – brown socks with black shoes and slacks, for example, or a belt that doesn’t coordinate with the rest of your outfit – can contribute to an overall feeling of disorganization and an unkempt nature. Also make sure that your hands are clean – chances are that you’ll be shaking a lot of hands before the interview is over.
- Be honest. If you plan on routinely wearing a piercing that will show while at work, make certain that you’re sporting that same piercing during the interview. Make certain it’s professional in size and color and thus as inconspicuous as possible, but you don’t want to reveal it your first week as some kind of secret you’ve been keeping.
All in all, just use a bit of decorum and good judgment when dressing for an interview. Remember – you don’t want them to remember your clothes. You want them to remember you.
